Gina has always had a fascination with the body in motion whether it be in dance, sports, or observing it paralleled in nature. While pursuing her degree in Journalism from NYU she happened upon a work study program with Lynn Simonson in Soho’s Dance Space Studio. The program focused on an “organic approach to movement that prepare[s] the body to dance in a way that is anatomically intelligent and somatically aware.” This approach led her down a path of appreciating how each moving body it so very different and has come to it through years of muscle memory, injury, and habits. With this unique understanding, she learned any “body” can achieve strength and wellness if approached in an intelligent manner.
Having been diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 14 she learned very early on that traditional methods of linear strength training were not only ineffective for her but also highly damaging and painful. Through the years she has kept physically strong and active by combining strength training as a certified personal trainer as well as through other dynamic movement activities such as yoga, martial arts and snowboarding.
However, she always felt that the real key to strength and agility relied in the thorough understanding of biomechanics of the body and that unless she personally addressed these areas, she could risk losing fun activities, like snowboarding, if proper strength was not maintained.
For the past 15 plus years, Gina has been gathering the skills and tools that make her stand apart as a teacher today. She is certified in and teaches Pilates (Mat and all the Pilates Apparatus) as well as in the GYROTONIC© Expansion System (Pulley Tower Level 1 and Level 2, Part 1; Jump Stretch Board; Gyrotoner). She has a keen eye and can help you achieve your goals and has worked with all physical capabilities from the severely injured in a rehabilitation setting to professional athletes looking to maintain optimal strength and movement. She really believes that whatever your limitations are, perceived or otherwise, if you are willing to put in the work that she can make you look and feel your best.
